Healthy Eating Through the Holidays
Nov. 10, 2008
GOSHEN, Ind. - Everywhere you turn, holiday decorations are popping up and grocery store aisles are beginning to feature favorite treats and ingredients to bake those best loved, tasty dishes so familiar to the holiday season.
Whether an office carry-in or a family gathering, it is nearly impossible to avoid the indulgences the holiday season brings with it. With all there is to contend with, it's easy to find the temptations too much to bear, and give up on healthy eating altogether during the holidays.
But holiday eating doesn't have to be stressful. Before the first tempting buffet is served, Goshen Health System wants to help you recognize the challenges and prepare you for a successful holiday season that won't leave you feeling guilty come January.
Join Dr. John Hawkins and Audrey Reyes, registered and clinical dietitian on Thursday, Nov. 20 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Martins Supermarket in Goshen on US 33. The class will be held in the upstairs section of Martins' Side Door Deli.
Dr. Hawkins and Audrey will lead participants in a discussion on healthy eating throughout the holiday season. Together they will address risks and health concerns of an unhealthy diet, followed by tips about ways to eat healthier throughout the holidays.
In addition, two lucky participants will have a chance to win a Thanksgiving meal to feed a family of four. One prepared Thanksgiving meal for the family on-the-go and for one lucky at-home coook, one "do it yourself" meal including the Turkey and all the trimmings will be raffled. This event is free and open to the public.
