EMS Education receives national accreditation
GOSHEN Ind. – The Emergency Medical field is an exciting and challenging health-care career for those interested in providing emergency care in the pre-hospital or hospital emergency department setting.
Training for such a career is available through Healthy Generation’s nationally accredited EMS education program.
The Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic Program offered through Healthy Generations received accreditation on May 16, 2008 from the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs. This three-year accreditation certifies that the Healthy Generations EMS education meets national standards.
According to the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), the standards by which these programs are measured have generally been developed by professionals involved in each discipline – intended to reflect what a person needs to know and be able to do to function successfully within the profession.
“Accreditation in health-related fields serves a very important public interest,” said Joel Conrad, Director of Healthy Generations. “It is a tool to help assure a well-prepared and qualified workforce is providing health care services to our community.”
Through this accreditation, Healthy Generations has entered into a consortium with Ivy Tech, meaning Ivy Tech Colleges statewide will be able to accept Healthy Generations’ Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic Program as educational credits when students want to complete an associate’s degree in Paramedicine.
The EMS Programs at Goshen General Hospital offers certifications as a First Responder, Basic EMT, Basic-Advanced EMT and Paramedic. These programs are designed to meet the needs of students interested in entry-level training as well as that seeking career advancement.
